In the wake of massive devastation caused by the recent Commonwealth of Man invasion, the Slerpanor League colony of Jakaro (Jik system), currently administered by Governer Dathagg Carronade, has announced the beginning of a new anti-global warming campaign.
"Even prior to the Commonwealth bombardment, our facilities were insufficient to compensate for our rapid and expansive urbanization," said Carronade, speaking from a backup administration building after the planetary capital was disabled by Human bombardment rounds.
"As part of the new campaign, a new tax cut is being provided to any building that succeeds in removing a certain ppm amount of air pollutants from their local atmosphere. These measures will be enforced by the Jakaro Climate Authorities, created in response to the growing climate crisis on the planet."
The campaign has been met with varying levels of acceptance by the populace, many of whom desire for a sharper focus on recovering from the war, rather than combating climate change. Despite protests in numerous bombed-out city centers, Governor Carronade has remained steadfast in his commitment to the climate.
"We cannot forget the planet we live on," he said in a written response to the protests.
"Treat it well, and it will treat us as well."
The climate movement has been widely hailed as an extension of the Naturalist philosophy sweeping Slerpanor League colonies, started as a result of the Human-Slerpanor War devastation seen in the eight systems invaded by the Commonwealth.
For now, it's too early in the campaign's life to judge whether or not it will be successful. Regardless of criticism, however, Dathagg Carronade is more than willing to go through with it.
